Also this weekend I finally got to Blick Art Supply in Pasadena and bought some new colored pencils. I run out of blue faster than other colors so I picked up four different blue pencils, a neon pink and a chartreuse. I completed a large painting on panel last week and submitted it to a juried exhibition, now I wait to hear back…could take another week or so.

In the mean time subscribe to my site, follow me on Instagram and like my artist Facebook page if you haven’t already.

new drawing & deadline

I really mean to post more here, so today I’ll add a recently completed drawing: ink and colored pencil on mat board, approximately 5×6″

Also I’m working on a large painting for an upcoming exhibition whose deadline in now only a few days away. Hoping I can work on it for another 10 -20 hours this weekend. It’s gotten to the point where I’m working on it in 15-20 minute intervals any time that I can. I’ll post more about that when it’s complete.

John Otter featured on ArtQuench

I was recently invited to be a featured artist at ArtQuench magazine, sharing my backstory. It took me longer than expected to write. I’m usually not one to share much about where I came from, I’m much more interested in where I’m at now – but the process was pretty illuminating.

Encouraged by his artistic mother John learns at an early age the techniques of drawing. His travels to different environments affect his work and allow him to grow in new ways.  John’s exceptional work shows his range of talent and inspires us to continue to grow in our craft.
