Fresh Honey & Mural

I’m pleased to announce that I’ll have a new drawing in Fresh Honey (a non-themed group show) at The Hive Gallery & Studios in Los Angeles next month. The opening reception is June 4th from 8 – 11 pm and there are three exhibitions opening that night. more info on Facebook: “Retrovision 3” + “Rising Stars of LA”+ Hive Film Night- Opening June 4th

The LA County Fair ends May 30th which means this is the last chance to see the mural I created in front of the Flower & Garden Pavillion. Read about it in John Brantingham’s essay in the Journal of Radical Wonder: John Otter’s Mural at the LA County Fair. And if you haven’t already watched the process video on YouTube it’s right here: John Otter: Painting Large.

I completed one of my largest paintings last month which is on view during the Los Angeles County Fair (May 5 – May 30, 2022). It’s located in front of the Flower & Garden Pavillion and features flowers that were popular throughout the various decades that the LA County Fair has been around. This year the Fair is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary.

Deleting Instagram posts!

I’ve been on Instagram for several years now and generally post pictures of new work there, and sometimes images of work in progress or random interesting things.

In an attempt to cull and curate my Instagram feed/profile I’ve decided that I’m going to go in and delete a bunch of images that don’t need to be there. Instagram isn’t an archive, nor is it a portfolio – but I think I’d like my profile to be more like a portfolio.

I did the same thing with my Facebook account not too long ago, it was easy since I wasn’t on Facebook much anymore. It’s not that I want to delete social profiles, but lately I think I just want to reduce the noise.

I’m in the midst of posting a series of drawings that I made in Albuquerque, New Mexico last week. I’m posting them about one every other day or so. I’m not sure how long they’ll stay on Instagram – I think new stuff will get posted and hang out there for at least a week. What are your thoughts?

Original drawings available at Neon Moon

I have 11 drawings available to purchase at Neon Moon Art Supplies & Studio in Claremont, CA. this November. Each drawing is ink and graphite on 8-ply archival mat board, and approximately 6 x 3.5″ They’ll be selling for low low price of only $30 each, first come first serve, while supplies last, etc. etc.

The drawings will be part of the November Group Show at Neon Moon Art Supplies & Studio, and is up during the Claremont Art Walk: Saturday, November 7th from 6pm – 9pm. The Art Walk is open and free to the public.
Note: *Galleries are encouraged to follow strict social distancing guidelines and masks are required to be worn in Claremont.*

There may only be one of the drawings on display, when that drawing sells they’ll put another one up. If you’re interested in purchasing more than one, or one that’s different than the one displayed ask them if any other drawings are still available. These would make great holidays gifts for your art-loving friends!
